Crime Victim Endorses Rick Guinn for Johnson County DA

June 13, 2007 -- Crime victim Ruth Peck made the following statement of support for Rick Guinn, candidate for Johnson County District Attorney, while introducing him at his campaign announcement today:

"On May 20th 2005 at 11:30 in the morning I was assaulted and robbed of my purse at the Target store on 119th St in Olathe. While struggling with the attacker I screamed for help. Jonathan U who was a customer heard my screams and came to help. He got to the assailant Brad Jones’ car, reached in for the purse and then Brad Jones drove off with Jonathan half in and half out of the car. Brad Jones crashed into the cement wall and crushed Jonathan between the car and the wall. Jonathan lived 18 days and passed away on June 8th. Brad Jones was caught within minutes of the robbery by some very brave bystanders.

Within days of the crime Prosecuting Attorney, Rick Guinn made it a point to meet with me in person. This was the beginning of many meetings to follow. I was impressed with his thoroughness and his concern for the well being of myself and Jonathan’s family.

We would meet with Mr. Guinn on a regular basis leading up to the trial. The trial ended with the conviction of Brad Jones. We felt so confident having Rick Guinn, a professional prosecutor with many years of experience handling our case. I want to thank him publicly for everything he did for us and introduce him to all of you."
