Rick Guinn announced his candidacy for Johnson County District Attorney on June 13, 2007, after 26 years of law enforcement service.

Guinn was born in Homestead, PA, to a Lutheran minister and a kindergarten teacher. He traveled to Kansas in 1974 when he began his undergraduate studies at Bethany College in Lindsborg. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Economics.

Guinn continued his education at Washburn School of Law, where he graduated in 1980.

After a year of private practice, Guinn joined the Johnson County District Attorney's Office as an assistant district attorney in the Juvenile Crime Division.

Demonstrating hard work and dedication, Guinn moved up quickly and became the leader of the Child Sex Crimes Unit in charge of prosecuting child molestation, solicitation and other related crimes.

In 1989, Guinn became the First Assistant District Attorney in Johnson County. He was charged with overseeing the administrative functions of the office, as well as prosecuting major felonies including many high profile homicide cases.

In the early 2000s, he led the White Collar Crime and Consumer Protection Division becoming an expert in white collar crime and arson. Guinn was named Prosecutor of the Year by the Kansas City Area Arson Taskforce for his work on the Debra Green case.

During his 26 years as a prosecutor in Johnson County , Guinn personally tried over 100 criminal jury trials maintaining a 90 percent conviction rate. He is committed to achieving justice no matter how difficult the case.

Guinn has also argued more than a dozen cases before the Kansas Supreme Court.

In January of 2007, Guinn joined the Kansas Attorney General's Office, where he leads the Criminal Justice Division and prosecutes major felonies to assist counties across the state. He is currently prosecuting a number of high profile cases.

Beyond his work in the courtroom, Guinn has served as president of the Johnson County Bar Association, board member of the Sunflower House, a child advocacy center, and board member of Bethphage, a residential care facility for developmentally disabled adults.

Guinn lives in Overland Park with his wife Angela and their sons Sam, 11, and Ben, 6. Angela is a librarian with the Blue Valley School District . The Guinns attend the Holy Cross Catholic Church where Rick is a member of the finance council.
